Hosting a Low Back Workshop

Your Health(y) Business, Episode IV

Welcome to episode 4 of Your Health(y) Business on Low Back Workshops! This episode is a real treat for us because we’re talking about something that we’ve been in the trenches doing for the last 6 years.

Low back pain and mental health are the two most commonly mentioned health claims that are causing problems for businesses, qualitatively and quantitatively. When it comes to corporate wellness, a great number of HR personnel and benefits managers have expressed interest in preemptively preventing low back pain and the number of workshops we’ve run has increased exponentially.

In the health and fitness world, we’ve helped hundreds of gym owners, physical therapists, chiropractors, and personal trainers. In fact, in the last 6 years, we have delivered at least 170 musculoskeletal health workshops.  These have ranged from one hour to 8 hours, and have taken place in Sydney, San Diego, Sao Paolo and many other places that don’t start with the letter ‘S’.

The Details

But enough about our resume.

How to run a workshop, specifically how to run a low back workshop, is not difficult. With the right preparation, knowledge and attitude, workshops have the potential to become a valuable resource for your community and business.

Dr. T’s Top 5 Lessons Learned from Low Back Workshops

1: It’s imperative you show face in your community. Workshops enable this.  They help you bring your personality and clear message to large groups as opposed to individuals in a 1-on-1 setting.

2: Leading a workshop forces you to become clear on the principles of common issues. Communicating mobility issues vs stability issues vs pain to a large group requires concise explanations that enhance your ability to explain concepts more clearly in a 1-on-1 setting.

3: Workshops allow you to meet your community and express to your community that you care for the members’ needs.

4: Workshops are the best lead magnet for anyone with a 1-on-1 health or fitness business model. They’re an amazing opportunity to build trust early in the customer journey when prospective clients are in an information-gathering mindset.

5: Workshops get you out of your comfort zone. Public speaking is an enormous stressor for most people.  Your personal and professional growth are dependent on getting out of your comfort zone.
